I imagined ordinary items of a soldier's life once packed in the locker:  photographs, blankets, a folded sweater.  All gone now, leaving an empty container, the dull, ordinary concrete evidence of war. Later, I came across a dead stump culled from the woods and I dragged it home. It too once held life, beauty, growth, and future: all gone.  Like the locker, all that remained was an empty husk. Put the two objects - the remains of the day -  face to face and you establish an encounter, a relationship, a set of questions.
